4 Week Lesson Plan

Crack your outline and first chapters in a month

00

Pre-homework

In the pre-homework we revisit your characters, world, central situation, theme, and killer premise from 5 days to a Killer Concept. You flesh out the core elements of your story in preparation for sketching the story's initial beats.

01

Character in crisis

In this first week we continue to build your characters, the foundation of any great novel. Who wants what and what will they do to get it? We delve deep into the emotional backstory of your protagonist to understand their motivation in a visceral way. You also start to sketch your character arcs.

02

Outline for Character: Strong conflict, strong concept

As you continue to develop your characters and their arcs, we put your protagonist and antagonist in the crucible, road test their motivations for strong conflict, and ensure you have the necessary stakes to create a thrilling story. We also help you solidify your concept.

03

Outline for Plot: Situations, escalations, obstacles, reveals

Genre novels must have strong plots. In the second half of the outlining lesson, we put your plotting under a microscope. And do some intensive scene work.

04

Find Your Voice

As you begin the first 20 pp of your book, we dig deep into your personal connection to your work and revisit some fundamental tools of the craft to ensure that your work has a strong sense of style, tone, and voice.

Is there homework?

Yes! This is a course designed to get you to an outline and the first twenty pages for a thriller, horror, or suspense in a month. An extended development process is a shortcut many authors benefit from. But you also have to put in the work. There are weekly assignments.

I need feedback, not just a webinar.

We got you. This is being run as a regular class. You will receive personalized feedback on your assignments, outline, and up to first twenty pages.

After I've finished the Develop Your Novel class, what's next?

"4 Weeks to Develop Your Novel" is Part II of a three-part sequence. Part I is "5 Days to a Killer Concept." Next is Part III, "12 Weeks to Write Your Book" (because, yes, you can write a good book in three months if you've put in the development work up-front.)

Do you issue refunds?

Our refund policy is as follows: 100% if we are notified 30 days before the first day of the class. 50% if we are notified 15 days before the first day of class. 0% after that.

I have more questions. Where can I contact you?

Just email us at genremasters@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
